This banknote, together with its "obverse twin" issued in 1889, are the only Spanish ones with a double window for the watermark. These banknotes are printed on thick paper. Although due to the manipulations, ironing and others, they are located with the thin paper.

Issue 1886: On August 10, 1885, the General Council of the Bank had determined that all its banknotes would henceforth be made in Spain, "under the immediate direction, inspection and surveillance of the Central Administration and in the same building in which it has its offices." The foreign orders had therefore ended for the moment. The Council also agrees that a single and permanent banknote be studied and prepared for the future.

Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (30 March 1746 – 16 April 1828) was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker. He is considered the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His paintings, drawings, and engravings reflected contemporary historical upheavals and influenced important 19th- and 20th-century painters. Goya is often referred to as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the Moderns.
