A well-known series of coins minted in the name of Claudius (AD 41- 54) at a certain Caesarea have for over a century perplexed numismatists who were unable to identify the mint among the several Caesareas located in Cappadocia, Cilicia and Syria, although findspot evidence pointed to eastern Cilicia and northern Syria. This study argues that the coins should be attributed to Mopsuestia, temporarily renamed Caesarea.
