Hello,
Just curious!
I have a Mexican 'War of Independence' coin in an AU+ grade. It is an 1821 Zs RG 8 Reales (KM# 111.6). It's a really nice piece, much eye appeal, but holed. The position, size, and neatness of hole leads me to believe it was once jewelry.
What are your thoughts about saving the 'holed' coins original value, if it were offered as center piece with high-end sterling necklace/chain? And would the male or female market be a better target?
Has anyone heard of successful stories along these lines?
As far as I know, if the coin is not ultra rare, hole in the coin reduces it's value considerably. Many collectors obviously don't like any such damage to their coins.
