Roger Farrant Bland (born 1955) is a prominent British numismatist and curator specializing in Roman coinage and coin hoards in Great Britain. He began his career at the British Museum in 1979 as a curator in the Department of Coins and Medals, later serving as Deputy Keeper (2001–2005) and then as Keeper of the Department of Portable Antiquities and Treasure (2005–2013). He also headed the Department of Prehistory and Europe (2012–2013) and the newly formed Department of Britain, Europe, and Prehistory (2013–2015) before retiring from the museum in 2015.
Bland has made significant contributions to the field of numismatics through his leadership and scholarship. From 1994 to 2003, he was seconded as an advisor to the Department of National Heritage and later the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport. Since 2015, he has held academic positions as a visiting professor at the University of Leicester and a Senior Fellow at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge. He served as the 34th President of the Royal Numismatic Society from 2018 to 2023.
In addition to his academic and curatorial work, Bland has chaired the Treasure Valuation Committee since 2020, overseeing the valuation of significant archaeological finds in the UK. His contributions to numismatics and cultural heritage have earned him widespread recognition, including being named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
