Magnet fishing finds (Terrible condition)

My son-in-law went magnet fishing in a river near Bath, Somerset, England a couple of weeks ago, and basically, he collected a small bag of scrap metal.
Two of the items do look like some kind of coin, but there are no letters, or anything else to identify what they might be.
We had a good go at cleaning them as best we could, and are now left with the enigma.

I am asking you collectors out there what they could be, given the small bit of data I have. I have not weighed them as there is so much wear, it would not be beneficial to my cause.

First coin.


Diameter-29mm thickness-2.5mm

Second coin


Diameter-20mm thickness-2mm

Trying to determine possible face values of any country with this information.

He reckons that not one will be able to help, due to the poor condition, but I told him, there are people out there who thrive on this type of question.

I have no clue but next time you go fishing for real fish, you could use them as sinkers.

Do you have any idea how deep the river was? It's quite far away but if he's pinned an exact/approximate location I'd definitely be interested in further research. Perhaps even taking the ROV for a spin!

No idea about those though; I'm no magician

Knowing the river there as I do, it averages at under 4 feet. There are deeper areas, but he kept to the shallower parts.
Access to the river is not the best, even for people in a lot of places.

I recently went magnet fishing on the canal with my friend and he pulled out a magnetic piece of black, slimy metal the same size and shape as a penny... he tossed it back in!
