Obverse: Reads. Elizabeth II D.G. REG. F.D. 1977
Liz on a horse
Reverse; Bird wings open downward, looks more like a dove than an eagle. Crown above and vine work around the edge. 38mm.
I am certain that there was no disrespect intended and I am sure you will understand when I ask that you should refer to our reigning monarch by her correct title, i.e. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - many thanks
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
Yet it really doesn't bother me how people say her name or anything, I mean it's not like the past when they actually ruled - it's more a figure head these days and for tourism.

You are correct, it was made as an attempt to be friendly that failed.
George
Don't worry about it not many of us Brits care, you will always get people that do but that's their choice (not saying its a bad one) but I think the royal family is pretty obsolete these days, if it wasn't for the millions they bring in with tourism England would have become a republic years ago !
Just a comment about Marks reply/post
It is not England but Great Britain. She reigns over.
About Her title - it is common courtesy to use it.
Would you address President Obama as man/bro
MannersRespect count for some people

Look I'm from England but should I say I'm from great Britain instead ? She may well rule great Britain but Scotland are going
For independence there's nothing to stop NI and wales doing the same so really she presides over England and the others are affiliated with England to become great Britain I only say England because I am a religious football supporter and my national team is England who's anthem is god save the queen.. Of course I understand it's courtesy I wouldn't address her as liz but I'm not addressing her am I ? lighten up its not the dark ages where you may be hung for such an offence it was clearly intended to make people smile and break the ice, you will never get everyone to conform to your standards so live and let live i say and have a laugh along the way, it makes life easier ! I don't think I even know anyone who really cares much for the queen hence me saying most I guess you two may be older ? It tends to be the young people like me that don't care. Oh and as for Obama I wouldn't address him atall I have no interest atall in American politics unless it makes me worse off. I only know who he is because it's rammed down
Your throat on a weekly basis, between him this bloody hung parliament and David beckham I could quite happily never never read another news paper again
I must say that I am a staunch royalist and I respect the Queen and Royal family...others don't and that is their choice.
My point is that we are getting a little political and I don't wish to start arguing about something that isn't necessary to argue about.
All I wanted was to make the guy feel a bit more welcome there's no need to jump on his back like a keyboard warrior, if you didn't like what he said don't comment is the theory I usually adopt I just don't understand why you would take offence :S

As I have come to regard several of you as friends it would please me very much if we could all agree to disagree and move on to less acrimonious topics.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

So I have that coin and I'm pretty pretty sure it's the silver one 'cause it has no signs of being plated or anything like that, but can anyone tell me the main difference?
Proof coins are unmistakable, and very shiny. When new the UK 1977 crown came in a plastic holder and a Royal Mint box, like above. Whoever owned it to start with would have kept it in container, so if your coin is loose then it probably is not a proof coin.
There are no extra markings on the coin to indicate it is proof. They are struck wih polished dies, and handled individually after minting to ensure no scratches.
Oh, and I got a load (for less than face value) earlier this year, and I am sure none of them are proof !
They are, like I mentioned earlier, all loose coins so none are in a holder.
Ah, I automatically thought about proof coins, but now I re-read and see you said silver. There is a Topic on here somewhere that tells how to find the difference. Something about tissue paper and whether the coins looks black or white through it, and so on. Here it is ... https://en.numista.com/forum/topic5933.html
