I tried searching the forum to see if this topic has come up before, but I couldn't find an answer. I recently purchased a medal that was minted this year (2020) but is double dated 1623-2023. The medal was produced to raise funds for a town's 400th anniversary celebration in a few years, hence the future date. I want to add this medal to the catalog, but I'm not sure how to handle the date since the date on the medal does not match the date I know it was minted.
Thanks for your input!

It's not easy even non exonumia have this problem. For example the first German Euro coins were made in part before 2002 but have all the same date, France puts the mint date so you have coins from 1999. Australia often releases coins a few months before the date on the coin and there are many more.
But I would use ND 2020 and put in the comment that it was made/released then. You can still find 2023 through the lettering.
I ended up taking the lead of the US Bicentennial Quarter (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces56.html) which was minted in 1975 and 1976, but dual dated 1776-1976. I put 2023 as the date since that's the date on the medal, but added a comment that they were minted in 2020. We'll see if admin accepts my choice.
