I have found these 2 coins in my newly inherited coin collection. They are very damaged and worn. I have tried to take pictures but my camera is not so good. So my hubby took pictures for me. His phone makes the colour look too gold/bronze. So I have included 1 of my "bad" pictures for better colour reference. The backgrounds paper is black.
First one is Roman provincial, I can't read Greek alphabet so I can't read the legend but judging from its size it's probably a Tetradrachm. By reading the legend you can find out the emperor. Second is Constantine II with GLORIA EXERCITVS reverse, the mint mark should be at the bottom of the reverse, I can't read it from the photos but if you can try matching it to examples on WildWinds to find the mint: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/constantine_II/t.html
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.
It's the one upward wing like thing that looks similar, but the "S" on the right of the "bird" on my coin, but (on the screenshot) looks more like a triange, or A or sideways V
Since these coins are hand hammered not machine made going by image isn't the best way to approach identifying them. Hand hammered coins can differ in image, size, weight. The coins mint mark and legend hold the key to identification. Check the reverse of the second coin, the mint mark should be at the bottom. If you can read it you can identify the mint, if not then just add it to your collection as Constantine II GLORIA EXERCITVS unknown mint. As for the first coin write down the letters of the obverse to find the correct emperor then check coins minted in Alexandria under that emperor's authority to find the correct one.
