Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could translate for me the inscription on this medallion? I am just curious what is it saying:

Thank you.
The language isn't Hindi, the official language of India. To me it looks like maybe Thai, though it might be some other Southeast Asian language. The portrait looks like a Buddhist monk and the leaf is the shape of a leaf from the Bodhi Tree, sacred to Buddhists. So my guest is that it commemorates an honored monk. Sorry I can't help further.
I saw a medallion with rather similar obverse lettering - described as
'Commemorative medallion of Asian Buddhist figures'
but this has a different reverse. Still, it's a start ...

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
But no idea of the language. Different portrait obviously, just comparing here the lettering >

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
It may be a monastery amulet / talisman from Thailand, depicting a monk. From these pages ...
Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
The language is Thai. They are tokens commemorating the pictured monks. They were produced by the temple that the monks are associated with.
Thank you all for your help. Very interesting.
