Hi I was wondering if anybody could help me I have just purchased a very nice 1977s proof Washington quarter with shiny fields and frosted Matt devices and I noticed the mint mark stood out so under my microscope I found that the s mint mark looks like an 8 could you please help would appreciate some advice
Hi.
Best bet go to coneca- variety vista compare to same year.
Wexlers varieties go to 'rpm ' repunched mint
mark.
1977 s Washington quarter.
Good luck 😃
I have just been on verity visa as you advised and there’s no rpm for that year 1977s proof and so I had a look at all the rpm types and there is nothing like my mint mark could it be rare?
Hi.If not listed is not recognised .
So value would be whatever sold price achieved sold eBay.
As not recognised as a variety rpm NOT worth it to send to pcgs/ ncg/ snacks as would be graded as a normal 1977s quarter.
Under microscope sometimes judgement errors occur, optical illusions, a normal machine strike doubling will look alike a double die and it isn't.
Sorry can't help you further.
Good hunting
The gentleman's 1977S Quarter above is exactly the same, my 1977s Quarter is exactly the same, and the example in the link I provided is exactly the same as yours. I fail to understand why you think your coin is different, special or somehow valued at a premium above and beyond what everybody else has.
Look at the Numista page for this coin. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces55.html
Look at the entry for 1979S. There are 2, a Type 1 and a Type 2.
In the comments is the comment, "Type II" proofs have clearer mint-marks than "Type I".
The 1977S's were all similar to the Type 1.
For a good picture of both Types follow the link below. It will show you what a 1977S mint mark looks like. http://varietyvista.com/09b%20WQ%20Vol%202/San%20Francisco%20Mintmark%20Styles.htm
It looks just like yours. Put your mind at rest.
