I was considering buying this coin
 http://www.amazon.com/German-Third-Reich-Silver-Reichsmark/dp/B003ZW79T0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347715653&sr=8-1&keywords=third+reich+silver
But is it a fake
Hi Tomas, these Third Reich coins are not something that interest me at all so I am not familiar with the coins or their design. I have just looked in the book and it values the coin at $20 in Unc condition but I think that example is in Ef condition, as to me it looks as though it has some wear on it and the book only values it at $8 - so on that basis I would avoid it. I am put off by its description - a little more information about the coin wouldn't be to hard for the seller to add. I think if you are unsure you should avoid buying. It is better to invest in some books on the coins you wish to collect before you start buying them, so that you can have a greater knowledge of the coins to avoid being conned.
I can't guarantee that the coin is authentic, It looks pretty real though. I don't know why anyone would want to fake one of these coins. They are pretty common with the exception of a few mint marks. (There are lots of different mints these were made) I happen to have the 5 Reichsmark and it has a bullion value of $13.75. So I believe that is a fair price for that coin. The 5 Reichsmark is nice. Feels solid and is just an interesting piece. The incused lettering around the edge is awesome too, I don't know if the 2 RM has that though.

I don't see anything which shouts out fake. Digital scales and calipers will settle the matter.

It is overpriced by about 50% though compared to eBay. As the coins are silver they always attract a lot of competition but with a little patience you can find the more common dates for well under $10.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Agreed, it looks genuine but you can quite often pick them up for around $7.50 - $10 on E-bay.  It amuses me that most people list them as rare and hard to get hold of and yet there's always pleanty of them listed.

I prefer the 5 mark coins, similar size but they're a much higher fineness of silver, 90% as opposed to the 60% silver the 2 mark coins are.
You think the offer is a fake or do you consider the coin basically for a fake ????

Here it is.....
