Does anyone know anything about the US Kennedy half dollar 1972 D which is missing F G on reverse? Was the die made that way or was the die changed? I think I have one, not sure. And I have a 1983 D one where the front is off-centered - should I put it away? Thank you, Daryl
The 1972-D Half Dollar is most likely a struck through grease error which is usually just face value.
For the 1983-D it depends on how much off center. If there is just a little bit more rim on the coin, there is no extra value. If there is blank space or another coin showing it is worth much more.
Try to take some good pictures and post them on here.
I've been searching for a no-fg kennedy halve for a while now, without much luck. I've found a few with EXTREMELY WEAK fg's, but as the below discussion on a different forum opines, weak fg's don't cut it.
here is an excerpt from that discussion as to the value:
"Perhaps you can find an 1982 No FG at MS63 for under $20 but no way in hell can you even come close to a 1972-D No FG in MS63 for less than $500. 1982 had a very high distribution with only the highest MS grades showing any real value. Typically, MS66 brings more than $100 whereas MS67 can get well into 4 figures without the decimal point"
Thank you Jasanche for the extra information. There are a lot of the very weak ones out there. The old story I been told on this. Is a mint employee bluffed it off. If you look at the field were it should be ,looks different than the field of the rest of the coin.
then you have ones were the top of the letters don't look changed
iam still looking for a fully missing FG myself
