does this coin have any value?

50 euro cent germany

thanks for the help. is it worth more than 50 cent? =)

No, of course not! Read the pages regarding those coins in numista, look at the mintages and then use your grey cells to reason about the “worth". Learn to help yourself for those basic coins……

I have tried to youtube numista tutorials but have not seen any. I only became a member few days ago so apologies for not using my grey cells and becoming a pro in less than 1 hour use. but I appreciate your advice. I'm only looking for figure out which coins are worth more than face value so I can start a new hobby and go coin hunting. if you can help guide me to any book or first few steps I would be very grateful.

For the collector, every coin is priceless!

If you want make money with coins, try silver, gold or pre-1800 coins, study and read a lot about them!

Most of the coins in my collection (>45.000) were face value, when they were struck, that's how it starts with circulation coins! So start collecting the circulation coins from your home country. Since you're from Ireland, you might even be able to collect all the circulating Eurocoins (from all of Europe) and maybe the UK circulating coins, where you'll also find Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and Gibraltar with a bit of luck.

Pay with cash and not a credit card and you'll find all you need in your pocket change. Decide if you want to collect by type or also by year and even die marks. Change the found coins for better quality coins, when you find them, and put the exchanged coins into your doubles list. Up to this point your collection has not cost you no more than the face value of all the coins.

Doesn't that sound tempting?

This is probably not the best way to start collecting coins if you're really such a beginner. If you got a coin as change in a store, chances are much higher it's worth its face value than that it's a rare coin and you've won the lottery. You'll just waste your time, annoy people here, and not get anywhere.

Instead maybe try collecting sets of coins in excellent condition from various regions/countries, or browse around to see what kinds of coins are out there and start collecting coins that appeal to you in some way. Making money with coins requires you to be an expert in the first place, so don't rush it.
