Hello.

Please help to identificate silver coin.

Тhe weight of the coin is 11.1 grams.

India, Jahangir Zodiac rupee (Gemini: month Khurdad), Ahmadabad mint

Like the one in Zeno, yours appears to be dated AH 1027.

These so-called Zodiac rupees are highly sought after and thus highly faked.  So, depending on where you got it, it should somewhat tell you the answer to whether its real or not…

Yes, a rare, valuable, and desirable coin, and it would make sense that there are fakes. The weight is about right (11.1 g, while Krause reports 11.44 g, but there's some wear). The appearance with wear and test (Shroff) marks to me supports the hypothesis that the coin in question is genuine, but it would not be impossible to fake these as well. Perhaps some tests for silver would be desirable, as well as some trustworthy provenance. The diameter of the example in Zeno is 20 mm. The KM number is 150.7.

Hi,kazak!

IF GENUINE,very-very expensive medieval coin (India,Mughal Empire,AH 1027=AD 1617) with KM catalogue values of 1.500 usd (in VG condition) & 4000 usd (in Fine grade) etc.!

Please,as I am curious,were/how did you get it?!

Because we don't find such things ''in the streets''

Friendly yours,

Andi

Some of my “doubts” are the purity test holes, but not sure as the angle of the photos doesn't do much justice.  Also, the calligraphy seems a bit off in some areas when compared to actual coins…

Good afternoon Andi.

The coin was purchased in 2016 in a set with other coins.

The seller assured that the coins were purchased by him in Britain.

The condition of the coin did not cause doubts.

I provide additional photos.

Hi again!

My friend kazak, first of all thanks for your response to my question! If in 2016 you haven't paid a too big amount of money(which seems to be the case with ''lots'',that are not sold generaly with large amounts of cash!),then you got a nice ''deal''(as I already said)!

Second, the coin looks absolutely genuine to me but I think that the 2 (verification?)holes in it lower the coin's market value… Besides,I don't know how strong or weak were in 1617 the (mintage) strikes but your coin seems to have been quite well circulated and now,it arrives in our days in a somehow ‘’Fine'' state of preservation/grade.

Nevertheless,it remains of a big price/value!

I wish you only such findings!

Bought coins in bulk.

I'm really lucky.

The seller didn't know what he was selling.

I paid about 100 euros for everything.

Sincerely, Kazak.

I provide additional photos.

Dear kazak, with 100 euros for 6 tiny coins,I think that your seller also believed that HE did the great deal! I am so very sure that he paid much, much less when he also bought those coins…

But the bargains,I may bet, will stop with you!

The seller was buying a large collection of Roman coins. This is his theme.

He was given Mughal coins at a big discount. He himself did not understand oriental coins. Sincerely, Kazak
