Hello,dear colleagues!

Please, what grade & collectable value/price would you put on the following circulated half crown 1846,silver coin of Great Britain, queen Victoria? The coin's weight is 14g. &,please, the authenticity is not under discuss!

Thank you very much for your helpfull responses!

Andi

VG 10 - Fine 12. Harshly cleaned. Value is what someone is willing to pay for it in it's condition.

Thanks,harryg! Possible value/price,please?!?

Thanks,harryg! Possible value/price,please?!?

Your welcome. These are the values slabbed and graded so these are inflated compared to yours because your coin is not slabbed and graded.

Also this. Unslabbed and not professionally graded.

Dear, harryg, what you say is the general rule of collectables, including coins…

Even an Unc. coin, proof, pattern or what it could be,is WORTH  for somebody a lot of money and for another person, possibly zero if not interested in it! So,what I want to know is: ''How much the average of INTERESTED collectors would pay for such a (harshly) cleaned/used Fine coin?''

If you or someone else has a proper answer, thanks for it!

Correct. I would not be interested because I do not collect those. To a person who is serious about collecting Victoria half crowns, this example would be what we call a hole filler if they needed an example of that date. It is not a very good example of the 1846 date. I would imagine a serious collector of half crowns would not be willing to spend much over melt value to fill that hole. You can get a good idea of what they are actually fetching at the bottom of the coinsanduk link. On Ebay of course + shipping.https://www.coinsanduk.com/coins-prices-value-pre-decimal-coinage.php?coin=half-crown-1846&years=half-crown-1839-1901&cat=pre-decimal

Thank you, dear harryg, for your detailed answers but, please, you have chosen as an example ''similar'' to mine the worse worn coin, for 8£! Have you please looked closely to the very used 2 faces of that coin?! My coin compared to what you sent me,is in the range of 59$(one coin) or 75$(another).

Seems you want the answer you want to hear and not what the actual market will bear. Don't ask for answers if you don't want to hear the facts. Search for yourself. I just handed you the tools to do so and just posted an example. If you want offers, that is a solicitation and not allowed here.

The coin is not for sell, that is a fact to well be known!

But,my friend, why have you got so angry?!?

I thanked you for your detailed answers but to choose the worsed coin as similar to mine doesn't match to your first grading of VG10-FINE12 !…

Please see that in the list of examples you gave me, a graded VG6(!!!) was sold with 75usd. Others, with about the same quality as mine, have sold prices of 53£ or 59$ (another)…

I repeat,YOUR own grading(that,by the way, seems correct to me!) doesn't match at all with the chosen ''similar'' example!!!

YOU HAVE NO MOTIVES TO BE ANGRY! Sincerelly!

Good luck to you.

NGC book value in VG condition (which I would personally grade this one) is $75, but coins often sell for less than book value.

I would remind you that these NGC “values” are full retail for slabbed and graded coins only that are uncleaned and are “book value” for in kind comparison only. To suggest his coin comes anywhere near that value is misleading and just plain wrong. There are many other book value references that are not conditionally slabbed and graded.

I agree completely with Harryg, melt value + maybe 5$.
