Got here an likely ancient greek or there about coin eagle on one side with Aemai and AΣmeΩΣ or thats what i think is written

The weight is 5.69g

Dimensions between 18.43mm to 18.97mm

Hello!

It's likely that your coin is from the Ptolemaic Kingdom. Many of the bronze coins are similar, and have the text “ΠTOΛEMAIOΥ BAΣΙΛEΩΣ” and have a similar eagle.

Hope this helps!

Hello!

''Ptolemaic Kingdom'' means Egypt after Alexander The Great, under the dinasty founded by one of his most important generals,Ptolemée Soter

You may have a bronze hemichalkon.

Thanks for all the details so far, any idea of age seing as the hemichalkon this might be isnt in the numista library atm?

Dear friend, exactly the age is difficult to say unless someone determines the exact king of the Ptolemaic dinasty who minted the coin…

But,as we already know the kingdom & dinasty (which began their existance about 300B.C. and lasted to the death of queen Cleopatra VII & the conquest of Egypt by the romans under their first emperor Octavian Augustus,at about year 1 A.D.), this means that your coin's age is between 2000 and 2300 years old.

Pleased?!

Ah ok thanks so much for the info you could give anyhow!

That coin is definitely Ptolemaic. A great resource for identifying Ptolemaic copper coins is http://ptolemybronze.com/ptolemy_series.html

I've looked through that page I posted, and I think that Sv1060 is a perfect match for your coin.

It's from either Ptolemy IV or Ptolemy V, making it at least 2202 years old.

Here is another example: https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/aegean_numismatics/1/product/egypt_ptolemy_iv_or_v_222180_bc_bronze_ae18/1704384/Default.aspx

Is it possible for you to post a close-up picture of the edge of your coin? Something about your photos worries me. The surface and the edge don't look entirely right. Are you sure it isn't a cast copy of an ancient coin?

Gonna post underneat this as for its authenticity i have no clue since its a bulk purchase from me.

The edge is uneven (dont know how well that translates on my photos) and cracked at an spot.

Terrazone, I'm not an expert in these coins, although I have a few of them myself.

Every Ptolemaic coin I have ever seen has an edge like these. (These are pictures I grabbed off the Internet quickly.)

The edge is always smooth. Ive never seen an edge that shows a seam on it, like yours seems to. I also felt that the obverse surface of the coin looks very rough in your first picture, and that the design details seem incomplete. That might just be the light, and I don't want to tell you that your coin isn't real. However, from what I'm seeing I think it might be a good idea to have it examined by an expert before you rejoice at finding a treasure.

The reverse of your coin is really clear and nice, so works in its favour. It is one of those cases where you can't really tell from photos.

Please let me know what you find out! I'd be really interested to know what your coin actually is.

Andrew

My coin has the hole/inclination in the middle of the coin like the shown examples as for the edges its mostly flat save some damages there seems to be a very tiny lip on about 20% of the edge but thats only on parts where the edge seems to be damaged

I will be bringing it down today to my local coin store to hear their input on its authenticity.

If legit its a neat find but im not holding my breath here

I have positive news, both guys at the coin store (both very knowledgeble on ancient coins far more so then me) agreed on it being a real ancient coin. It has sadly had a bad "planchet" thus why its cracked on one corner amongst other things its a ground find also by their estimations. Where its likely lost some detail on the face to corrosion aswell as the bad planchet.

I can 100% confirm that its the same as the above coin. Down to having similair planchet damages on the linked example
