Hi,

I got this coin / token in a job lot, but have no idea of country of origin (China ?) or date.

is anyone able to please help me identify what it is ?

it’s approx 27mm in diameter.

many thanks

Hello!

Your coin SEEMS TO BE a copper chinese coin of ‘’10 cash'' from the first years of the 20-th.century. Generally,a few dollars of collectable value in similar conservation grades.

But I said ''seems to be'' because on the top of the dragon we can read the letters HU,then the following letters are worn and then an O.

There is the place of the name of the Chinese province which minted the coin. The big problem is that there were only 2 provincies which names began by HU,but none also ending in O (HU-PEH & HUNAN).

So,the coin may be a fake/forgery!

Hi Andi, thanks for the quick response - under better light, it appears to read HU 100, or HU IOO above the dragon …. Does that make sense ? Thanks ….. it came in a job lot, so not expecting it to be much 😃

It's not the name of a province, it's the Ministry of Revenue and if it's genuine it's one of THOSE.

Sorry,my friend,no sense at all!

1) HU 100 > Ha-ha-ha 👎😂

2) HU IOO > Could have been a name of province in another China… There existed another real provinces with names ending in O but not starting with HU. So,my opinion  is that it is a forgery; there are so many… especially for chinese coins.

Ok.,then,if our colleague idolenz has found it in the Numista catalogue… the coin is a real coin but as of a low denomination & also (possible) not high collectable value it was not worth for fakes.

I said (possible) because I don't find this coin in the KM catalogue,to know for sure what the market says!

It's clearly shown in the “KM catalog.”

Great, thank you ….. on further inspection, the P of POO is very worn, but knowing what it should say, I can just make it out … thanks again,
