Numista in German

I'm fairly new to this. But it is a great site and a wonderful idea.
Quite a few swaps are under way...
The site is predominantly English and French - which isn't bad - but I think a German branch would really add to it. Germany has a huge market for coin collectors, but many older folks aren't very good at French or English (English more so as young collectors are also in the market).
Well, I don't know much about programming and such things, but as I grew up bilingual, I would like to help translate or proof-read for a potential German version of this site.
What do you think?
Starting to sway again soon. Almost done adding coins for swap.
Please a little more patience
that sounds good, but you have ask the boss

I asked if we could have German over a year ago.

There's so much work in introducing a new language; I don't think we can do it.

It really would be great.
Yes, I'm sure there is a lot of work. I'd be willing to put in my part.
I guess we just need to find enought people to help create it.
We'll see. We're not giving up, but have to wait and see...

Xavier did a little research a while ago.

I was wondering which language was the most popular for coin collecting. I thought it would be German, but it wasn't. It wasn't French. It wasn't even English. It was Japanese! Funny thing, being a Japanese coin collector, there is very little numismatic history about Japan, so I found it really really odd that Japanese would be the most common language for coin collecting.

Anyways, it's not about translating coin pages (which is a large workload to translate, some 35,000 pages), it's about working on all the database translations as well, and I think it might also set even more dispute among different language speaking Numista members.

I don't think that Numista's ready for a third language.

I would never say never.
The German coin collecting culture is surely very high, and surely a lot of people in Germany are into coin collection. That is not surprising if you consider, that half of 17th KM catalog of the World - is German states.
Somehow, it would be lovely to increase the number of German collectors to Numista, there are surprisingly few here, and then ... maybe one day.
In general, I surely support the idea.

RE: SmartOneKg: I also did a bit of research on my own bookshelf behind me, and I have found about a meter of German literature on Münzen (Coins), but none in Japanese  :D
Slightly off topic I know, but I've been wondering.

I have been told that it is unlawful in Germany to possess items that bare symbols from the Nazi party. Is this true? And if it is, does it affect coins from Nazi Germany?

For example:

Would this be illegal?
Hi ctucker,

it's not illegal to own coins with a swastika. But you have to be careful when you publish images of these coins, because you have to cover the swastika.
I think swastikas on coins on Numista are no judicial problem.

Back to topic: I would favour a German version of Numista. Of course, this work can't be done in a few weeks, but if some German collectors co-operate, this would be doable.
I would help, too   B)

Coins with Swastikas are in a grey area of the law. Ebay may or may not take down those coins for auction on ebay.de. Sellers usually censor it with a dot or something. When I sell them I just put them on ebay.com to avoid the hassling.
Public display of swastikas is prohibited, since it symbolizes the Nazi Parties in particular and Nazis in general. Nazis and Neo-Nazis are considered anti-constitutional which means they can be prosecuted under the adjacent laws.

Back to topic: I'm sure one day there will be a German site - maybe not overnight, but like I said, I am willing to help translate some of the 35 000 documents needed.

All the best and happy swapping.

Regradless.
I think first you shall create a German community; although I am not one of You, per se, I am happy to assist to chase down members, then, you might come to an action plan...! - after that some activity shown, then maybe you can convince some teammembers to support you on this one.

It won't be easy. ... Aber doch ... go for it!

... The amount of German/German State coinage, would it not justify a totally notwithstanding, independent site? You guys are as volumenous as the rest of the world from 1600 to 1914! ..
As I mentioned somewhere in this Forum I also would definitely like to help translating Numista in German. There are really quite few Germans here... this needs to be changed.  B)
I'm not orange and also in other things I'm not a Donald at all. DonChori like Don Felipe or Doña María, por favor.

Can you / would you recruit some?
E.g. by posting in German blogs/facebook forums or numismatic forums about how great Numista is, maybe sharing some of your swapping experiences etc. telling them some benefits of they can manage their collection ... und so weiter.
- I did not try any one these, just an idea to gain more attention to Germany and German States...
