Hello, I have this 1 Florin from 1864, mint mark B.As I understand from Numista website, 1864 B mint mark should be relatively rare among other Florins.

When it comes to weight and dimensions, its all as it should be, and local coin guy also think it is authentic.

I would like to hear other opinions, based on pictures, it you think it is authentic, what do you think about condition of coin, and what would be it's approximate value on market.

Thank you in advance for any help.

not easy.

For authenticity you have to check weight and diameter first.

From the pictures only i would rate this coin authentic, almost xf, value 35€ +- occasion.

Hi,my friend! Yes,you are right and so are the information you have up to now: the year + mint 1864B are much better than others for a silver Florin of emperor Frantz-Joseph.

My personal opinion is that your coin is genuine(I hope it doesn't stick to a magnet,as fakes do!) and for its conservation grade I would give a XF40 (perhaps with a little minus). Anyway, its collectable value remains quite high for this type coin. As a guide for possible market value I send you above the page of the well-known KM catalogue about this kind of Austrian coins.

Hope that all these are of help & answer your legitimate inquieries!

Andi👋

P.S.: I now saw the reply to your post given by our colleague stefan205 during the time I was writting mine and my KM catalogue values are much higher than the 35€ given by him: up to 140$ for an XF piece! 🤔

Hello guys, thank you very much for your time and replies!

Diameter and weight are exactly as they should be for this coin (29 mm and 12.35g), and it doesn't stick to a magnet, luckily :)

It only have one very minore “dent” on the face side, at the edge (shown on new picture below). I guess someone dropped it to a flor at some point, so I don't know if you guys noticed that, and how much something like that affects it's value and collectaibility (would it still be graded as you mentioned previously, because of that)?

Besides this one, I also have one more coin that might be interesting (1 Korona 1913 KB), I will be posting it soon, so I would like your and other people opinion of it's grade and possible value ;)

Best regards!

Generally,I have noticed that coins' grading is about its remaining details after circulation (compared to mint state). Mainly! Other defects (like bumps,dents,scratches,unproper/harsh cleaning, etc.) affect more or less the collectable value of any coin,in proportion of that defect's importance. Your coin's defect is a minor one,so you must not be too worried about… But you must always keep in mind that for coins (like all other collectable items) the market value is given by the ''match'' between offer and demand AT ONE PRECISE MOMENT! That means that if the right buyer meets a seller,a ''worse'' quality item MAY sell to a higher price than a better piece(sold at an other time, not too ''favorable'' for that transaction!).

Andi👋

P.S.: The Hungarian 1 Corona 1913KB is the key date of that type, with only 5200 pieces minted. Very, very low mintage! For this coin the KM catalogue gives the following values: 150usd for an used VF20 specimen & 250usd for an XF40 piece. Of course, other higher prices for much better specimens (like AU or Unc.). 👍

Hello Andi, thank you again for reply.

It is indeed very minor dent, so I wondered if or how much would it affect coins grade an value, in general, and for this particular coin.

I also agree with you on other thing you said, about buyer/seller :)

When it comes to 1 Korona 1913 KB, i am aware it is very rare (as you mentioned, only 5200 minted!).I have seen two on ebay beeing sold for 600-700$, at beginning of this year.

When it comes to these coins that have rare date/mintage mark, I am always bit skeptic if they are authentic, and I wonder how people determine that with sertainty (other than diameter and weight).

I will make new post about 1 Korona right now, so feel free to check it and make comment (unfortunately I have just two pictures of back of the coin, as I don't have it with me right now, but hope those would be helpful).
