1942 Mercury dime, missing year/variety line entry [решено]

In summary, while most years for this coin have separate year lines for different varieties (examples provided in that other thread I referenced), 1942 seems to have lumped all the “standard” coins in with the year over year mint error virieties, all in the same year line, instead of separating them out in to separate year lines as has been done on other year lines for the same coin.  

I recommend converting the existing year line for the 1942, “overdate variety 42/41” in to two separate year lines, one for the overdate variety, and one for the “standard” variety (which currently doesn't exist on the page).  

As already asked, how do you split all the members having this year between the old and new year lines? You have to make an inquiry to all members to make sure the split is done correctly! All the members collecting only by types will ask you to go somewhere very hot, but have fun with that.

With an NRI of 3 and a frequency of 31% you're talking about asking tens of thousands of members if they have an overdate (extremely “rare”) or a normal coin.  Sometimes you just have to hold your nose and make the best possible choice which meets the vast majority of members.  The alternative is never adding a new year line for a variety since you can't be sure you won't be messing with someone's collection.  One thing is certain: very few of those tens of thousands with this coin have the overdate that the year line says it is for.

Just checked the Wayback Machine.  This is how the year lines looked in 2020.  The comment “overdate variety 42/41 see comments” should not have been added to the 1942 year line.  A new year line should have been created then or the comment “overdate variety 42/41 exists, see comments” should have been added to the existing year line.  This change just fixes that mistake.

Assign them all to the more common year line. Individual users can correct their collections, as needed

But only if they are aware an action is needed, will the referee activate the communication to all the owners?

The solution for this recurring issue would be to send optional notification to collectors when an entry they have an item in is updated.
