1704 1 Pfennig Real?

6 сообщений • просмотрено 113 раз

Hello!

I have come across an interesting find. Well, more interesting if it's authentic.

It is a 1704 Abbey of Corvey K116 1 Pfennig.

It is 17mm diameter, .86 grams (really thin copper) Appears hammered.

Any opinion?  I'm leaning toward repro, but I'm not sure.

Welcome to Numista. Everything about your coin looks right to my eye. I can find no fault with it.

Thank you for your opinion! I hope others will agree.

Now, the obvious question. I cannot find anything even remotely close to establishing a value. If I were to submit this for authentication and grading, what value do I put on it for shipping insurance and the graders insist on a perceived value before grading? Any help in that realm?

Let me see what I can find. Be back soon.

Edit. This is what NGC estimates a authenticated, slabbed, and professionally graded example will retail for. What it might actually fetch is anybody's guess and of course I don't have to tell you the costs of having it professionally slabbed and graded. You can compare your example with the one on the NGC link as well. My opinion is that it would grade in the VF or XF range but it appears to have been cleaned to my eye at one time as well. Not sure what I would advise you to do in this case. Good luck with it.

The value is less that $50 so it makes no sense to spend money on this service, unless you are a collector who likes to have all their coins slabbed..

Thank you, both!
