I got an album of coins from all over the world that I'm adding to my Numista collection and I'm having trouble with the coin for the Maldives. This is what it looks like:
It's silver colored, 20-22 mm in diameter, reeded edge, medal alignment.
There's a lot of discrepancies between this and any other Maldives coins I can find on Numista and Google Images:
- The outer sector of the moon in the seal is convex on other coins, it's flat here
- The obverse says “Maldives” and not “Republic of Maldives”
- There's no year on the coin
- The boat on the reverse does appear on some Maldives coins, but never with the number right next to it
- There is no denomination listed for what the 20 is referring to
Does anyone have any idea what this is? It can't be a mule since I can't find any coin with either face of this coin. At this point I'm thinking it's either play money or a counterfeit.
