I read somewhere that at the beginning of '96 the RCM had to use German planchets as they were not ready to do so. 60,000,000 was the mintage with these planchets. How to ID? Value?
Hi, they're usually worth a bit ($100ish) more than regular I believe, but it is almost impossible to identify. To really determine the planchet the coin needs to be in excellent condition and you need good lighting.
The Canadian planchet is described as more oily and shiny, while the German one 'has a dull, matte-like finish'
Hope that helps a bit, but you really need to have practise with ID'ing the planchets
