The Dutch postal code lottery is a lottery system in which the postal code of the participant is the ticket number. When a particular postal code is the winning draw, all participants with that postal code have to share the price. It has the funny effect that sometimes half of the residents of a street get rich and move elsewhere.
It also creates jealousy in people who live in such a street but didn't participate in the lottery. A legal appeal has been made once, but court has spoken that these people are not entitled to any form of compensation.
