Hi all now I have the hang of this forum this is a silver looking contemporary forgery of a trajan denarius 20mm across and weighing 2.9 grams I found it in the ground so can't choose the condition of my finds but for a forgery it's lasted well I've seen real ones in worse shape how dose this affect its value thanks for looking kindest regards Steve

I'm curious, what makes you think it's a forgery? Does it have a base metal core? Judging from the photos alone it looks good to me. The color looks silver and the lettering seems to be correct not gibberish usually found on forgeries.

Hi there the correct weight for a denarius  is 4.5 grams I've got others which have the core metal blown out of the face of the coin I will do another post showing this later today

In theory yes however if you take a look at any current auction house dealing in ancient coins you'll find a large number of Roman denarii underweight, even during the Adoptive Emperors. I wouldn't write it off as a forgery due to weight alone.
