Is this 2 Euro of the Battle of Marathon worth for 3 euro? The cashier gave me this coin when I bought food at the grocery store in Finland 😺

Hi Siam, welcome to Numista and welcome to the Forum!

You got hold of a nice €2 commemorative coin, and relatively far from its origin. Though nice and unusual, it is not a rare coin, and it looks well circulated. Market price is not higher than €2, although you may find an enthusiast with a desire for the coin who will pay €2.50 for it but probably not €3 in this condition.

On your profile page and in your other posts you say you enjoy the art on the coins. Indeed, beautiful coins can be picked from you wallet if you just care to look at them. But honestly, most of what you will find in your wallet is worth face value.

My advice is to enjoy collecting, enjoy the art, and enjoy spring!

hello, it's a commemorative coin, it's a type of coin that shouldn't be used in the grocery store, right? 🤔

Hi there,

2 euro commemorative coins are in circulation,

each country can release up to 2 commemorative coins per year, they’re produced only for a given year. Alongside you’ll have the standard circulating coin for the said country who have the same design across several years (only date is changed)

this coin is from Greece, and actually the standard circulating 2010 in good condition worth a bit more than the commemorative coin.

Qty produced 700,000 VS 2,500,000

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

Thanks so much for the info.😸

All commemorative coins for 2 Euros are legal tender in all Euro zone countries, along with all normal Euro coins.
