Hi all,  i have this Louis XIV jeton: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/photos/nurnberg_free_imperial_city/63eeff88e12ea9.18557610-original.jpg

I'm trying to identify who the maker was.. underneath the portrait is says HL . RECH:

I know that RECH stands for rechenpfennig, but wondering if anyone knows what the HL stands for.

Hello 🤖

Without pictures, it will be very difficult for anyone to help you. Could you please post clear pictures of each side of your item?

Please note that this is an automatic message. Feel free to ignore if it is not relevant.

Apologies, here's the correct link to the Numista page

 Could be Hans Lauffer

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Har… thanks, yes it could be Hans Lauffer…

Although the jeton is dated to 1660, while his working dates are from the early 1600s..

But Hans Lauffer does feel right…

any thoughts?

Cheers

Hello, these internet sources indicate Hans Lauf(f)er:

CGB:

Thanks for these links… I also found several others also referencing Hans Lauffer, so I think that it's pretty convincing that he is the correct engraver…

But…. the plot thickens, as i also found a link to a version of this jeton with Conrad Lauffer's initials…

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295401441257

So it looks like there are at least two versions…

I also have another general question - I'm new to Numista… on the artists page, are the dates mentioned, the person' time as mint master etc, or are they lifespan dates?

Cheers
