Red Arrows 60th Anniversary Silver Proof 50p

8 сообщений • просмотрено 107 раз

Hi all,

I am fairly new to this but have recently bought some coins as presents/investments for family members. I am hoping somebody can provide knowledge on the subject heading though. I have the opportunity to buy one Red Arrows Silver Proof 50p coin 60th anniversary, but it looks like these are only available brand new in a set. Assuming this is correct, is the value negated if selling/buying these individually or do they still hold value?

thanks,

Criley

Generally speaking, true collectors want to collect coins as intended and released by the mint and are willing to pay a premium for the set. Once broken up, they become less desirable are therefore less valuable to collectors. To most others they will only be worth the bullion value especially if broken up.. There are always an occasional exception to those who are willing to pay a little more for for an individual coin but I am speaking as a collector, not an investor and always want whatever the product is as intended by the mint., a set in this case.

"True" coin collectors care little for plastic and paper graves, they care about the coins inside, also they are collectors not investors.

Personally I also care little for what a mint wants to peddle to me or how (but this is largely a modern thing though, were 90% a mint churns out is gimmicks to bolster their dwindling base for existence).

The premium you pay above melt value will probably never be recovered no matter how long you have the coin. If you're looking to buy silver for the investment value it is better to buy silver bars at melt plus ~5-10%.

That did not answer the question. His interest is not your interests nor mine. His question was does it normally diminish the value.  The OP will pay a premium for the set that he intends to break up and distribute. That will diminish value to those that are interested in these coins for Numismatic purposes . As a “true” collector and if interested in these coins I would purchase them as a set and keep them as a set. I do not want one individual coin from that set, nor would most collectors.

30 years from now a collector fancies buying a set. Sorry, I dont have the set but I have 1 individual coin broken up from the set…..

No, sorry. Not interested.

Even more junk from Westminster. I have just returned from Jersey and none of these releases are in circulation or indeed for sale at the philatelic bureau in St Helier. So make of it what you will but none of them will be included in my collection.

I don't believe the OP asked anybody's personal preferences in their choices of what they like or dislike to collect. You don't like them, we get it. The rest of us don't care what you like or dislike and is no way to welcome a new member asking for help. Your personal preferences are irrelevant and no help at all. Thanks for your “contributions” anyway.

If you have silver version, take the pictures and add them to Numista! I added these coins to catalogue but only with the graphics from Westminster. Better yreplace by real photos.
