Value of UK 4 Pence coin, 1874

Hello,

I recently purchased a UK 4-pence coin (N# 8478) from 1874, and am curious about what it's worth in its condition:

The coin has some circulation wear, most prominent on the forehead and base of the neck on the portrait.

Apologies for the cell phone camera photos, I can retake them if necessary.

Thanks.

the coin is in pretty rough shape, it's supposed to be “prooflike” which means the fields of the coin are supposed to look somewhat like a mirror, but yours looks tarnished and alot of grime buildup, i would say leave it in its current condition, for the price, i used NGC's guide, maybe around $20-30 or even more (might not be accurate especially since the coins of this series has such low mintages, :)

I am more experienced in the field of ancient and chinese coins, south-east asian coins included too!

Worn but still a beautiful and desirable coin to my eye.. I don't think using NGC for this coin is appropriate. I see your example at VF- XF and according to this Brit price guide about 30- 40 Pounds at VF- XF. In the end it's worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.

Hello coincrze and harryg,

Thanks for the reply. I understand that it is difficult to estimate values of coins with mintages as low as this. In the end, I paid just over CAD 25 for mine, so I am quite happy with the purchase.

Thanks!
