The new enthronement coin from Denmark

Today the King was presented with the new 20 kroner commemorative coin, for his enthronement. Set to be released in the beginning of November, it features the new king's portrait and motto on one side and his mom, the former Queen with reigning dates on the other side.

I believe it's the most recent portrait of the Queen, so maybe we'll still get some coins of her last portrait.

There will be produced 1 million of these coins.

Thanks for sharing this information. It's nice to see that the coin will be issued as the circulating commemorative and one will be theoretically able to find it in circulation (unlike the previous enthronement coin from 1972 struck in silver). Too bad the Danish mint webshop closed down before the coin was even announced…

The Danish Mint's webshop has relocated their sales to the coin, banknote and stamp shop “Nordfrim”, where you can pre-order. You can only buy a maximum of 5 though. But it is possible to get an uncirculated one, unlike the 10 and 20 Kroner from 2023

… the former Queen …

The former reigning monarch - semantics, I know, but she is still called Queen Margrethe.

Oh, but you're right and I should know better, haha. "… former reigning Queen… ” then 😂

Good thing is Nordfrim is selling this coin at face value, even though shipping cost will ruin this (unless one buys for more than €50 to get free shipping). 😏

Thanks a lot, I didn't know about this! By the way, it seems that the Nordfrim webshop mixed up the list of historical coin issuers and the list of countries they ship to. So you can calculate the shipping to Yugoslavia, GDR and even the German empire :)

When I have a look at the “checkout” page everything looks quite normal.

What page did you visit on the Nordfrim website?

I did not proceed to the checkout, but when you open just about any coin, then “see shipping” before adding it to the basket and then selecting the country, you get such choices. I guess it does not affect the funtionality of the shop, it is just funny that you can select no longer existing states.

I have added the coin to the catalog (if someone can create a better picture, please add that):

N#434775

And someone has already added it to their own collection… Three theories:

1) The H.M. King got a version, and he is a secret coin collector and user of Numista..?

2) After the fire on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange (Børsen) ealier this year, the rebuilding started and a time capsule was put into the new fundation, so Børsen has a profile for their collection..?

3) Or the more likely scenario: Someone added the coin to their collection, before getting it. Hopefully ordered it/will get it though.

Funny sidenote is according to the National Bank's Facebook page, there is at least one 1000 Kroner note they'll not get back. since it is sealed in the time capsule, together with the enthronement coin, and letters from politicians and other financial relevent people, about the economy of Denmark anno 2024.

His Majesty the King was the one sealing the time capsule, with a wax seal of the Roman god for commerce, Mercury.

I love those enthronement coins. The Danish have been doing them at least since 1699 when Christian V died and Frederick IV became king (OOPS - just saw 1670 when Frederick III died and Christian V became King) and then one from 1863 when Frederick VII died and Christian IX became king.

Also interesting 2 Kroner was the premiere commemorative silver coin at least to 1953 with one for Greenland. I have seen the 2 Kroner coins for 1888 (25th anniversary of C9) 1893 (His 25th wedding), 1903 (40th annivesary), 1912 (Enthronement of C10) and 1937 25th anniversary, which was a 2 Kroner Silver piece, long after Denmark moved to muck metal 2 Kroner coins.

The 1863 Enthronement coin was a Rigsdaler I think as Ores and Kroners only came in, in 1873.

Imagine one of these beauties for the present king.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I just got my batch of 5 enthronement coins. They come in these small cute red envelopes!

Should these envelopes be added as a seperate line in the catalog? No difference in the coin, just arrived in this little cardboard envelope.

What does @RegularCoiner  say? Although wrong forum/different topic.

You can put that information in the comment section.
