Unusual ancient coin with Kticthc around bust

6 сообщений • просмотрено 155 раз

I recently bought this coin, but can't find it anywhere here on numista. The letters around the bust are unusual, and I can't seem to decipher what the meaning is.

Reverse has a standing figure seeming to hold an large bird? Surrounded legend I can't quite make out, but Kar(m)atianon?

Weight: 4.47g

Diameter: 20mm

Coin looks a little better in hand…

Ok, thanks all! I wondered if a few letters appeared Greek…KA(Lambda-x2)-ATIANON

A surprise is coming soon, related to this coin…

Ok, just added to the coin catalog, was the surprise…

May need a little help to shape up a few details, and would become N#438990…

Topic bump. Not sure why N#438990 was not validated, but will try again, as I feel like I have all the data I would need :)

I will also take better photos as I have a better method now. Thanks all!

Topic bump, and I messaged another referee about this coin, in which nicer pictures I can do. I found a second reference at wildwinds.com/coins/moushmov/kallatis.html #204 with similar information on this coin.
