Hey Donald,

Please correct me, if I am wrong.

According to my Steven Tan's catalogue, there were no such coins ever minted for King George V. The only square coin minted was the half cent dated 1935. The bust of King George V  doesn't look like him either.

The quarter cent coin was minted in round shape and dated 1916.

I just found out that I have the same two coins as yours too. The coin is about 18mm wide, and weighs 3.84g.

I also have a Queen Victoria ¼ cent too. The problem with this coin is that it has a date of 1801. This coin was minted before she was born (b.1819-1901). People are just too creative.

BTW, I am not a coin expert nor am I a coin collector either.

I hope you did not pay too much for your two coins.

I can't read the dates on your coins but these are the only Straits Settlements George V square coins minted:

N#15225

N#5688

I believe they are both minted with the year 1932. What I am interested to know is are these modern 'works of art' or were they minted back in the 1930s? Based on the Queen Victoria 1/4 cent dated 1801, I would have to say it was done many years ago, presumably before the Internet era. If not, the artist would have done a quick fact check to see when the Queen was born unless the date was meant to be 1901, the year she died.

King George looks goofy, there’s no way that’s real. But I do hope you didn’t pay much for it. But at least you have a cool counterfeit.
