Euro coins from 2002 with defects

8 сообщений • просмотрено 515 раз

Hello! I am just a beginner in studying the defects of euro coins, and I have several copies, the value of which I cannot estimate in any way, because... I see coins with similar defects on ebay for quite large sums, but other sources write that such defects do not exceed 100-200 euros.

I have one coin from 2002, Italy with Dante Alighieri. There is one star missing on the obverse of the coin, apparently a minting error.

I have also 3 coins from Germany, 2 coins - 1 euro, and 1 - 2 euro with excess metal and offset from the center of the coin on the obverse of the coin.

Please help me evaluate these specimens.

Welcome to numista,

You'll not become rich like that! 2 euro is all it is worth, go and buy two baguettes, and that's it.

Don’t be fooled by con artists placing coins on ebay! If you go to the extra search setting, and search only sold items you will not find any that have sold for the amount you see they are on sale for, if you do find some often the scammers buy between themselves or from a different account that they own - no money is made, just moved. Granted someone with more money than sense might buy one, but they will soon learn it is worth only face value if they ever had to sell it. This is why people try!

Minting errors are interesting, work on your sales pitch and you might be able to double a coins value - but it is only worth 2 euros, because that is what it is. Luckily for you the euro is here to stay, so it’s value will only decrease with inflation - in 10 year you might not be able to buy as much with it as today, but it is still a €2 coin.

Hello,

I saw so many Italian 2002 Dante Alighieri coins with minting errors. So I decided to post one of mine and ask for advice. Is it rare minting error.? Maybe somebody saw or have similar in the collection.

Back and front looks ok. Maybe the front have extra outside ring. It is because…

The 2*2*2 pattern is half way made as on the picture. Is it rare minting every?

Appreciate any answers. Thank you

See the 2 posts above yours. They are right.

What do those posts have to do with a coin that only has reeding on half the edge?  The OP asked for advice on the type of error, not how valuable it was.  I've never seen one like that before. Have you?  Looks to me like the collar wasn't in the correct place.

Thank you very much. That's exactly what I was asking. If it is rare minting error. I saw many with front and reverse errors going around the Internet for astronomic amounts. I'm not looking for valuation just rarity.

Thank you very much again.

The OP only started late in the thread to talk about the edge, so of course the question of the edge was not asked…….
