Unknown Old European Coin #1 [решено]

Hello all,

I have a coin that I need help identifying as I am very unclear for medieval period Europe.

Here are the specs:

  • Bronze composition
  • 4 Lines on one of the sides indicates a denomination of some kind
  • Lettering on the edge of the coin
  • 0.51g in weight
  • Around 14mm to 15mm in diameter
  • 0.5mm in thickness

Hope this was helpful! Hope to hear what this is!

In your second photo, I think we caa see a legend like REGIS … VNGARIE, which likely makes this a Hungarian denar.

If you rotate the first photo 90 degrees clockwise, a coat of arms with the horizontal Arpad arms is seen, and lettering beginning with MONETA.  But maybe a double strike??

I would look in the 15th century  and you will probably find it in the Numista catalog.

Perfect! I will test those findings now.

Hello, I found the coin under Hungary in the 15th c. as you said. The trouble is there are two examples that are very similar and i need some help finding which one it is.

Here are the two I am stuck between:

N#34648

N#51207

If you could highlight or circle a word or a phrase, even part of it would be beneficial as I can work around where it is and get an idea what it is.

Your coin has MONETA on the shield side, so I'm not sure it is either of those.  But the coin is double struck, or struck over another coin which makes the ID more difficult.

That would make it this!: N#51207

Thank you all for the help!
