Hello everyone. Please help me identify my coin. If i am right i am seeing a possible D mintmark here.

i took a photo and incircled that “ D “ shadow.

hope you can help me and kindly make confirmations too.

thanking you all ahead.

I don't think so.

Look at this:

I just thought….i can see from your sample that  the D mintmarks doesnt have  hollow portion on the center of the letter …but somehow the shadow forms a letter like …it s just big…and some sort  of big shadow circle around the D ….so its philadelphia?

thanking you again my good Sir.

You are welcome.

How about this ….i just happened to notice a while ago….looks more similar to your samples….just hoping…closer to the leaves….

Just thought also that you havent noticed that spot because of the circled area of my first sets of photo…..but its the same coin and photo…

thanks for everything again…

Lastly my good Sir. Im not trying to push everything, but with this photos , i can tell that that D mintmarks somehow changes in places and in sizes too…thats why i thought that the first & second set of photo seems to shows something ?…i hope you can re-examine my coin.

Hey,

The mintmarks were hand applied back in the day so the location varied somewhat.

Sometime the wrong punch was used too.

That is how we got a 1945 Micro S dime.

The 1916 used the “D” from 1914.

I do not recall seeing an example where the mintmark had worn off like that.

However, you do have a couple of options available.

You can take it to a coin shop for an in person opinion or you can have it professionally graded.

ANACS is the most economical should you choose the grading route.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Hello my good Sir. Thank you for reaching out again.

i can see that your analysis somehow is very close…for a mintmark to worn out much..perhaps  that shadows happens to form like a D mintmark.

the grading idea is the answer but definitely beyond my means. Im just an ordinary poor coin lover.

well , i guess i have to leave it as it is in the meantime.

i really respect and appreciate  your kind consideration on this matter.

thanking you so much again my good Sir!

You are welcome.

Have you ever used the PCGS Photograde Tool?

Here's a link:

https://www.pcgs.com/photograde#/Mercury/Grades

Take a look at the Mercury Dimes.

Even in P01 the mint mark is visible.

For your information, there are a couple of  Mercury Dime groups on Facebook.

You may wish to join one of them and post your inquiry there.

Good luck!

thank you very much again for the assistance & guidance.

GOD BLESS us all!

Here are a couple of 1916D coins from PCGS.

Hello my good Sir, thank you for sharing also. Its good to have so many different coins of the  same kind for comparison. Though similarly worn out but they still have visible mintmarks. Very obvious marks.

thanking you yoo my good Sir.
