If zinc is being overrun by oxidation (the white stuff) I use a little CARE on them.  It should be available at any coin dealer.  I do not consider it cleaning because it does nothing to the surface of the coin only removing the oxidation.

Your question should be, should I "preserve" a coin. That will get you a bit more positive reaction, although many people dont know how to preserve it without cleaning it...
