Hello everyone! I have two indian coins that i have had trouble with finding in the catalouge.

The first one is a really small bronze coin, only weighing 0,29 grams and being 6,6 mm in diameter. the only clue i has for this one was ”travancore” written on the holder, I did search through the empire of travancore but couldn’t find anything really similar.

The second one is much larger, weighing 20,69 grams, having a diameter of 23,8 mm and having a thickness of around 5,5 mm (it varies from 5,3 to 5,8).

Thank you in advance!

:)

The large coin is Sultans of Dehli, Islam Shah Suri, ae paisa of mintless type, the top of the date digits are visible as 955 ah

The first one is not Travancore but Sind Emirate. This is the closes that I've found: N#49288, but you should check the other ones too: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?e=habbari_dynasty&r=&st=1-2&cat=y&im1=&im2=&ru=&ie=&ca=3&no=&v=&a=&dg=&i=&b=&m=&f=&t=&t2=&w=&mt=&u=&g=&c=&wi=&sw=

and the relevant page on Zeno: https://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=1233

Thank you @Vic65  and @SGreg85! I found the second one on zeno: https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=216644&cat=5655&ppuser=&sortby=d&way=desc

@Vic65 thanks for the info but Islam Shah Suri was leader of the Sur empire no? Plus in the catalouge sultanate of delhi only goes up to 1526 whilst the year on my coin is 1548/1549?

:)

It may be Islam Shah Suri though since the designs on the coins are very similar to mine, no exact matches though. This is the closest one i could find. N#48374

I’m gonna end this thread anyways since it is probably too hard to find an exact match to the first one.

Where did you get those dates from ? Islam shah ruled 1545 - 1552, followed by Muhammad Adil Shah suri 1552-1556

What catalogue do you mean ?  take a look in the correct place for where coins of the Suri's belong, not random internet stuff giving wrong information, even the link you gave mentions Dehli as the suri capital

Check zeno the Oriental coin database and the worlds biggest database for lndian coins,  https://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=15293 The coins all have a number starting with D for Dehli from the reference book ‘coins of the lndian sulatanates ’

Look past the rupees  page and there are pages full of  paisas, 125 or so and see if you can match your coin

I got the year from your previous post where you said the year was 955 ah which transalates into 1548/1549 AD no? Did we get AD and AH confused?

Sorry, i didn’t notice that. I went off the Sultanate of Delhi in numista: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?e=delhi_sultanate&r=&st=1-155-156-54-72&cat=y&im1=&im2=&ru=&ie=&ca=3&no=&v=&a=&dg=&i=&b=&m=&f=&t=&t2=&w=&mt=&u=&g=&c=&wi=&sw=

because i thought that was what you meant when you said sultans of delhi in your first post, very sorry for the confusion.

The problem with those wiki links is they contain errors and contradictions, One says Sher Shah defeated the Mughal empire, well he did kill the first Mughal emperor -Babur but it was hardly an empire from the first ruler was it.

ln the end the Mughals came back and ended the reign of the  Suris forever and then reigned for the following centuries and did build an empire

As many who came before them the Suri Sultans had their capital as Dehli so that's why we call them  Sultans of Dehli, ( spelled H before L on coins)
