is this a real 5 francs napoleonic coin? [решено]

it looks a bit too shiny for a supposedly real coin, but the weight is close to the weight it should be, thoughts?

I have one of these in awful condition, probably fair at best and that one still weighs about 23,8 grams. So i do not really see why it would weigh almost 1,5 grams less in that condition. Though i don’t know the standards for these coins so maybe it could be something else? Have you tried testing it with a magnet?

:)

Bonjour,

Est-il possible d’avoir une photo nette de la tranche?

I am just going to say straight away, this is fake (Based on images, only if I held it could I say 100%). It is actually quite a good fake, I had to look a few times.

You have the coin in hand, there are many more test you can do to make a better decision, magnet, ice cube, ping, xrf, using your hands and eyes compared to a real silver coin, etc.

The wear is not right, heavy in unusual areas (which isn’t natural) and the rim (one of the highest points) doesn’t have the same amount of wear as some other heavily worn areas. Looks all wrong.

You have the coin in hand, you need to make the decision. Mine is just based on the images and my experience - if you understand the reasons why it could be fake, do the other tests and come to the same conclusion as me, then there is nothing to be sorry about. You have not been cheated into buying a fake coin, but have bought valuable experience of what a fake coin looks, feels and sounds like - this will be invaluable in your collecting life. Put it in a fake tin and get it out to use as a reference coin.

Hello.

To have further info. answer to polette's ask and also inform us about the dimensions.

You also can make a silver test even if it is a fake or not.
