I've figured out that it's a Chinese cash coin, but how old, and what value or grade?

Or do you think I could ask at the Chinese buffet what year? 😂

Chinese cash coins don't have dates on them. They have the emperor's name on one side and the mint mark on the other.  For your coin the emperor's name is  Jiaqìng 嘉慶 written vertically on the obverse and the mint mark  Boo Yuwan ᠪᠣᠣ ᠶᡠᠸᠠᠨ on the reverse.  Jiaqìng rules from 1796 to 1820 AD.  Here is your coin in the catalog:

Thank you!  Is the one pictured in your link the same exact coin, or is mine one of the rarer ones, such as a two dot?  Mine also appears to be in much better condition than the example at the top of the page. Do you have an idea of what grade it is?

It's Hartill# 22.481, the first subtype in the list on the page.

I'm not fluent enough in this type coin to know which variant your is. I'll leave that to one of the real experts here.  Most Chinese Cash coins are fairly common as they were made in vary large quantities.  This one is rated as 15 or 16 rarity in Hartill catalog (0=extremely rare, 16=very common) about US $1 to $2.

Edit: I see one of the experts replied as I was typing.

Thank you!  Only 8 percent of them, so rarer than most apparently.

Thank you. According to his reply, this particular one only makes up 8 percent of this type coin.

That's not what those numbers mean.  What it means is that of all the Numista members who have entered this coin in their collection 8% have entered it on this year line which is more than all other year lines except one.  Many members just choose the first line since they don't know what variant they have (like you) so those percentages can be unreliable.  The Hartill catalog gives this variant 22.481 a rarity index of 16 the lowest, most common there is with a $1 price.

Hello

Agree with 22.481

really common coin

the 8% in Numista file don't change is value

Thank you both for the explanation.  That was confusing to me. Is the date range still correct? (1796-1798)

Yes for that variant.
