Ethiopian 1/8th Birr or a fake [решено]

The diameter of the coin is around 20mm, it weighs around 3.5g, it seems to align with an Ethiopian 1/8th birr but the bottom of the reverse is unlike any others I have found - the coin is non magnetic. I am driven to believe it may be fake.

Incase this peaks your interest as much as mine, after several hours of research I have deducted that this is not in fact a coin at all.

This item is a brass Medalette produced in 1897, it is referenced in Dennis Gill’s book as item M37a, the garland in the exergue of the reverse is a later edition, as item 37, was in-fact a like for like copy of the 1 Ghersh coin. (That was inevitably traded in the market places)
