I'm not getting the whole maundy money business... so maundy money was not real circulating money? and how do you make difference between the two if they were both minted on same year. maundy money and real money?
The Maundy money consists of a silver 1p,2p,3p, and 4p.
The ordinary 1d or now 1p was made from a different metal.
The ordinary 2d or now 1p was made from a different metal.
The 3d or 3p was always silver until the change of design and metal in 1937, some dates have both issues. Interestingly:
It is nowadays considered that the early small denomination silver coins 4d-1d were originally struck for the Maundy Ceremony although undoubtedly many subsequently circulated as small change. from Coin Yearbook 2014.
Цитата: bam777The Irish one is cupro-nickel as you have said.
Nice coins whether they are common or not common. They are still silver.
Thanks Ben
I presume the third one along the bottom row will be the same metal as it's dated 1940? I think the coinage was made of cheaper metal after the onset of WW2? (or thereabouts!!)
