XF?  AU?

The picture side looks brilliant but the side with the value looks not quite so crisp

I'd be as generous as to give AU for this coin, there is virtually no wear on this coin.

Thanks for the input guys, I was thinking that the value side wasn't shiny enough to be AU.  Isn't AU supposed to have lusture

I can not think that such defect has no impact on grade of preservation of the coin. It will be specified in every Italian grading label.

Yes it might give it a detail grading (corrosion) but it will still be AU

Thanks guys, I'll mark it down in my records as AU with a note to replace it if a better copy comes along.  I've now got 2, a 1937 coin in XF and this one.

I think that XF+ would be more honest than AU :)
(though I would write XF+/XF)
