King George the third penny

3 сообщений
I have a very worn Goerge the third penny. I can only id the kings head by profile. The kings head is facing left and so is Britanina. I've looked at pictures of King George pennys but can't find any in this configuration.
I'm almost totally sure the profile is King George the third. The year is worn and the only number i can read is the last number which is eight. I know this coin is almost totally worthless but because it came from my grandfarther along with alot more less elderly coins, i would like to know a little more about it. Can anyone help?

KM#579 28mm George II halfpenny (1740-1754) so could be 1748

As each king or queen changes so does the way they face on a coin; as George III faces right you have a coin from before or after. Also those three above are not pennies but do show a left-facing Britannia so I have added sizes. Those are the ones I could find that had a year ending in 8 also.
I see too that was your first post on your first day - welcome to the site  :)

it will definitely be a george II halpenny, as the date i would guess is 1758.
