Can anyone help out with the rarity and approx value of a silver coin.

The coin is actually mounted in a silver letter opener. Hence my first coin !

These Maltese coins can often be found mounted on jewelry or other things, my guess is that many coins of the Order of Malta have a religious background story.

 I would say of the three values on that page it could be the middle one, so US$125 perhaps.
Just for the coin, then add on whatever it being in a letter opener would fetch.

Looks fake a bit to me also.
But probably it's just very worn , being wore as a neck jewelry before.

Its true the surface and the details on the coin look strange. Posible other reasons I can think of (coin came in contact with very aggressive acid chemicals, coin was a long time in the ocean)
