Цитата: rachellebBeen collecting (very casually!) for around 2 years. I only have 84 coins but I think I've got a pretty good variety going on!
I posted this less than a year ago... I've more than doubled my collection (I have 218 different coins now), and I'm excited to see a lot of those gray areas getting filled in with colour!
Yesterday I received my coin from Greenland, last big country I had missing. Now my dashboard shows grey only for a few little islands. So far, with 251 countries I have 64.5% of the registered on Numista.
Numista have been the main source of information to know what I was missing, and to organize my collection.
Just 10 options: you understand binary, or you don't.
Catalog Referee Coins, Banknotes & Exonumia: Uruguay, Cuba, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, Zamunda, Parva Domus and more.
Duh! I meant 64.5% of the countries.. I knew I must not buy this keyboard made in Typoland
Thank you for heads up.

I've just ramped up my collection recently, although I'm sticking with silver proof coins and ancient Roman coins so far thus my map isn't going to grow very fast.
French Equatorial Africa: 1910 -> 1958 , Franc CFA
Central African Republic
Chad
Gabon
Republic of the Congo
If the "Franc CFA" still exists, this acronym has changed meaning over the years. Before 45, he meant "French counter of Africa" or "African financial community". Established in 1939, it actually becomes a currency with coins in 1945. At that time it is called "French colonies in Africa" until 1958 and then between 1958 and decolonization: "French community of Africa"; in 1960: "Financial Co-operation in Central Africa" and now: "African Financial Community".
He often changed meaning at the mercy of political developments!
I picked up a very nice 1926 Greenland Krone from the quarter bin at J&M coin in Vancouver today. I would be willing to swap, let me know your offer, it's a solid VF, not enough luster for XF. I'll post a pic when I get to a computer unless someone can tell me how to do it with my phone.
What an effort of art!
I just wish it would be true
BTW, I cannot wait till Xavier implements other stats on the dashboard, like the "total weight of your collection" - I am really curious, if an evacuation plan needed
Come on, guys, do not linger on me!
I am 47. started collecting at 9, so I had 38 years to pile up that hoard, what is so surprising? .... I have told more stories in other posts already...
do not embarrasss me!
Well, the biggest question will be; how to manage this mountain?!?
The most important thing of collecting is managing your collection
That's also the motto of a funny Dutch collector (unfortunately in Dutch) in this video.
He collect collections and has 260 different collections! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IygcybkIWAU

I just wanted to throw away a glass bottle to find out why it seems that you don't get any coin of the bushmen of Lesotho so far

I like the idea of " total weight". How will it be about, " Total currency value"!!!
I wish to thank imreh for the kind compliment on my collection. It is the grace of https://en.numista.com that motivates collector to do better than what they already have done.

I think 10 more should do it unless they change the map and add more nations on it:)
There is obviously Greenland; but it belonged to Denmark until 2009 and used Danish coins (and possibly still does). That area should have been also painted:)
Coins from those countries are hard to find. The only coins that have been minted for these specific countries are non-circulating commemorative coins (accept for the Faroe Islands, they have also issued circulating coins). So if you need some coins of these countries, You'd be better hunting for some commemoratives on E-Bay!
"For by telling them of many things without teaching them you will make them seem to know much, while for the most part they know nothing"
-Plato
It is no fun to pay enormous sums to commemoratives issued by weirdo nations only to rip off the collectioners:):):) I am in no hurry; one day I will find them when they pass to circulating coinages:):):)
What would be marvelous is to have these maps produced for 21st, 20th, 19th, 18th centuries. Imagine having an Ottoman coin in 18th century would cover most of Mediterranean, yet having an Italian city coin would only make a dot in Italy:):):)
Of course nation count is superficial. Now there are 401 nations listed in this site (and I presume partly marked on the map). But these only include German city states (Germany united only in 1871) as sub directories and not counted in. Same goes for Italy, India etc. And had the site wanted, they could have listed all ancient Greek cities as separate nations and have 1000s of nations; impossible to complete:):)
The map is just a game of course, but having further statistics (maybe working together with map) would be wonderful. For example how many coin types do we have of a nation among those listed? If that was the case, all the colours on my map would have had to change:)

I just finished entering them (5 months of capturing!), but I still have to add quite a few coins not contained in the Numista base, when I come back to Paris!
My doubles (10.000) I started to add this afternoon.....
it's just my oldest Scandinavian coin. Norway, 2 Mark, 1649, km33, nothing more, nothing less. It has gone through my family, together with other nice coins, since those days....

Ciao
I see, beautiful coin!
University is time consuming, cherish your free time!
I have a decent amount from Mexico and USA, but I really wish someone would send me a 20kg "trash" coins from the Old continent and Asia, because here where I live it is a small town and there are no such things as flea markets or coin dealers, and the prices on the web are ridiculous for some coins that are current currency and are worth less than 1 USA Cent. But I guess I'll have to live with it.
My mom recently died , and I found some cute little bags and there is where I found some coins from around the World, otherwise I would only have USA and Mexico coins by now.
My current Numista registry contains NO DUPLICATES, by the way, but I have a lot of duplicates that I didn't register.

I'm a new collector. Only bought a few bulk bins so far. It's sorted by how many different coins I have. I'm in the UK, and it's hard for me to find good bins of non-EU countries. Always lira, centimes, pfennigs.. I think I've got a good start though. 79 countries so far, many more to go.
It's improving. I'm currently working on South America. Got quite a few UNC sets ordered for the SA countries. Also I have a few coins from Greenland coming to fill that big gap!
Mongolia seems like a hard country to find coins for, despite it's size !
Your online collection contains 33493 coins: 9131 different types from 287 countries.
You currently have 9129 coins to exchange, but I miss to enter some 5.000 more, for the moment I'm entering coins from The Netherlands, and I do it in alphabetical order.....
Got a sweet deal today, some silver gems for less than 4 dollars each, and they are slowly filling my map. But still my "World" is pretty deserted. But I'm happy because as a child I would never expect to even SEE some of the coins I have now.
From this when I subbed the site
To this, today
But my biggest additions have been to Mexico and USA, which is not that bad as I have found some pretty coins for both countries, and mostly at bargain prices, like my FERDIN VII Half real from Zacatecas mint with I got for 3.50$.

Цитата: kpr007I do envy those who know aren't scared to swap over the net. Face to face if I ever do swap. (Ahhh...Paranoia).
What stops me from doing so are the thieves in the mail services, and the cost of shipping stuff. I would like trading common metal coins, but then the shipping expenses represent what I could use to get 2-4 small silver coins, so... I think I'll b a lonely collector, is not like I'm not used to loneliness.

I feel you there. And not to mention that the person you're swapping could be a liar/thief. No offense to all you honest swappers out there!
Here's my dashboard!!!!
I've been entering my surplus coins trying to clean up my coin room and discovered a new country coin hiding in the mix!!! Country #258 a 1909 Kiau Chau (German Colony) 10 cent one year type coin!!!! Very interesting coin, it has the German/Austrian heraldic eagle on the obverse and has the reverse of a Chinese cash coin!!!! Being a one year type coin with a mintage of only 615,000 and in VF - XF (possible old cleaning) condition, it really made my day and gave me a new country!!! One country closer to my goal of 300!!! Hopefully I will find some other hidden gems in my surplus coin bins!!!
Speaking of coin collectors and coin shops, has anyone ever known a person that actually has a clean and tidy, organized coin room or shop? Or am I the only one that has coins strewn everywhere but pretty much know where to look if I were to need to find a particular coin? I recently went to a coin shop in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas and as soon as I open the door I had to step over boxes of coins and traverse my way to the counter!!! This guy had coins, mint and proof sets (boxed and loose) strewn EVERYWHERE from floor to ceiling!!! Of course when I asked him if he had a particular coin, his response was "Yeah, I have a few around here somewhere." I simply replied "I bet you do!!!"

From July 2013, 15 swaps on Numista, from 10 to 50 coins each swap, all over the world.
No problem, only great pleasure to meet other collectors.
Be confident
