I have these for a while, but can't make anything out of it. I first thought they are a British 6 pence and a shilling, by looking at the details and the diameters. They both have a similar design and in the design I find the buste of King George III and the year of 1819 (very hard to see). But I seriously doubt they are a 'real' 6d and shilling because they seem to be made out of some sort of copper alloy. Possibly some sort of contemporary counterfeit coins?
I hope you can tell me more about them.

Hi Lotus07, Yes you are correct ,they are contemporary counterfeits of a sixpence and shilling. Very common during the period ,early 1800s, to have these coins in circulation. They would have been silvered and would look very close to the original silver coins. Ive found several of these counterfeits whilst metal detecting . some with some silvering left on, and others like yours, just copper alloy. They also counterfeited larger denominations like half-crowns and such.
I'm afraid yours aren't worth anything in that condition though.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for letting me know! I wasn't going to sell them anyway, they're far too interesting for me!
They make a nice contribution to my token collection, so I'm just going to leave them there! :)
By the way, do you know if there are also other alloys used for making these counterfeits?

Hi Lotus, looking at the counterfeits I have found and bought , they are mainly copper alloy (brass) although I do have George III, 1818, and William IIII 1834 Halfcrowns that appear to be a pewter or zinc type alloy.
