The first slot machines appeared around 1890.

In France, the law changed in 1902, the law no longer allows the distribution of cash earnings. In order to continue their lucrative trade, slot machine manufacturers then skirted the law by distributing the gains in nature: they distributed to the winners candy, cigarettes and chips to eat.
The token to consume could not represent more than two to three times the bet. The setting itself should not exceed 10 cents.
