U.S. Dime Error

3 сообщений
Hi everyone,

I found a 1974 dime that seems to have an error. On the part where it says "In God We Trust," the "W" is kind of cut off at the edge of the coin, and there is no ridge on the outer part like on the rest of it. Also, on the back, on the words "E Pluribus Unum," the "u" and "s" in "pluribus" aren't even there. They weren't rubbed off because the dime is practically in UNC condition. Sadly I can't take any photos, as my phone sucks, but does anyone know if this error is valuable, or if it's an actual error in the first place?

Thanks,
Patrick
Hello,

Without seeing the coin, what probably happened on the REV was a little grease was left in those letters on the die, or in the die, because they're incuse.  The liquid was there and the metal couldn't expand into those spaces.
And on the OBV most of the rim is raised, but it looks a little lopsided and a small part of the rim is not raised?  Is this a 2000s decade Philadelphia dime?

Hello Abc,

Thank you for your reply. I think you are correct about the grease part, but the dime is from 1974 and was minted in Denver. I've opened another topic with photos this time if you want to take a look at it. https://en.numista.com/forum/topic36506.html#p307897
