1870 Ceylon One Cent .... Is it an ERROR on my part.....

5 сообщений
As you can tell from my last post. I'm no coin expert.... Love 'em still the same, and I want to keep learning!!

You were all so awesome to help with the last coin. I was kind of hoping(begging)for a  little more love.
In a small collection I purchased I found this 1870 Ceylon One Cent piece, easy enough, English writing, great detail.
Then I noticed the little "bumps" on the face("V" in Victoria, and "Q" in Queen, and again at the lower part of the bust), and more notably the obverse 6-7 I found.

My question is... Are these "bumps" a error in the stamping process? If so what would the technical term be for the "bumps"?
I'm sick of quoting "bumps"
dear friend,
i think they are stamping errors. please compare your pics with the stock photos on numista.

They are probably 'die breaks'
Writing on the 3th picture is sinhala(left) and Tamil (right)
But I did not find the meaning (probably 'cent')

Thanks to you both on the great info! I've compared the photos previously, and was fairly sure the marks were errors. Being relatively new to coin collecting, and never physically holding an error coin left me unsure.

According to a very brief Google search Sinhala, and Tamil. were/are different languages. or dialects I suppose... in Indian, Sri Lanka came up searching both words. Maybe both dialects were used during that time in Ceylon? Definitely going to dig a little deeper. My interest is peaking.

Thanks again, very much appreciated!!

I think it is the word 'cent' in Tamil and sinhala(singalese)
Tamil : சதம் : century
In Tamil 'cent' is written as : சதவீதம்
You can see that in Tamil cent are the same characters (1st, 2nd and last)

I tried the same with sinhalese, but that didn't work
