Unknown counter or token

I purchased a clay coin that the seller identified as potentially as being a prakab clay coin from the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. That would be around 1733-58 according to seller. Seller was basing their attribution off of Mitchiner Non-Islamic # 2867, Coins in Thailand p.38-39, which I don't have.

It appears to have been made by bringing two molds together to form the whole. You can see some mark running around the center that seems to be of a different density. It is about 1 1/4 inch in diameter.

There are several cracks in the clay. In hand it doesn't look that old to me. I am thinking it is probably some sort of gambling counter or token, as I have read they were not just made out of porcelain but many different metals, glass, etc.

Has anyone seen something like this before?

I do have Mitchiner Non-Islamic Book with me. I will check and let you know.

Hi,

  In MNIS #2867 is a baked clay coin, 2 -3 grams. It is uniface with Kinari bird to right. The design of this coin looks nowhere similar to yours.

MNIS also has #2718 till #2721 (Ayuthia kingdom c. 1350 - 1564) similar design coins as yours but made of of bronze or tin (weight 9 grams).

I think either it's a replica of a copper coin or something that is not listed in MINS.

*GASP* Heresy!  I suspect you are right about the replica.  The fabric of the coin doesn't feel like it is several hundred years old.  I was thinking is was more of a modernish gaming token of some sort.  I guess I'll give it a tentative attribution and catalog it for now.  Thanks sujit.
